And, it is not rocket science to use WordPress. It is a codeless platform for creating websites and blogs.
As of July 2022, 64.2% of websites use WordPress on the internet. So, bloggers, only need to know basic WordPress to grow in their careers.
Content writers can also use WordPress to create their portfolios for free. Instead of sharing Google Docs links with clients.
So, let’s see how to publish a blog post using WordPress without ado.
Here’s How to Publish a Blog Post Using WordPress Default Editor?
WordPress is a content management system with no or fewer codes. It lets you create blog posts and web pages using powerful plugins and themes.
Here are quick steps that you can follow to publish a blog post on your WordPress default editor:
Step 1. Upload Your Content
First, log into your WordPress dashboard and go to Posts > Add New from the left pane.
It will take you to your default WordPress editor. From me, it looks something like this (it might look different to you based on plugins you have installed):
You can now click the add block button “+” to upload your content. There is a block for every content element on WordPress, including paragraphs, headings, etc.
For example, select a paragraph block to add your content in a paragraph style.
The best way to format your blog post for better readability is:
- Enter your blog title in the “Add title” section.
- Add at least one H2 tag—if you can add more, it is better.
- Throw in a few H3 and H4 tags.
- The paragraph block must not be longer than 200 words, less even better.
- Use bold, italics or underline to highlight important parts.
- Must add one bullet point listicle in your post.

Step 2. Upload Media
You can also add images, videos, and other media elements to make your blog post more informative.
For instance, you can use an image block to add an image to your post. You can also add the text and image next to each other using the Media & Text block.
A Gallery block can help to display images in rows and columns.
After selecting your image block, you can either upload photos from your WordPress media library or upload them from your computer.
Select an image and edit its size, dimensions, or other settings before uploading it to your post.
Want to add a video to your post?
No worries, just add a video block and follow the same steps.
You can copy/paste your video URL to a paragraph block, and WordPress will automatically turn it into a video embed block.
Step 3. Optimize Your Blog Post
You need to optimize your blog post for better search ranking from the right pane.
Here you can do a couple of things:
- Sort your post using categories and tags to organize content on the website.
- Add excerpts, aka blog summary, so that readers can overview your blog content.
- Alter the post URL slug or permalink. Make it short and keyword-focused.
- You can change the author in case you run a multi-author site.
Step 4. Add a Feature Image & Hyperlinks
Don’t forget to include a featured image as well. A feature image is the main article image that users see first on your blog post. So, make it engaging and appealing.
Expand the Featured Image section on the right side and click on the Set featured image. Like adding a post image, you can select or upload an image to set as the feature image.
Google EAT guidelines are pretty clear about internal and external linking. Backlinking is a viral SEO ranking factor.
Thus, you must select relevant anchor text to add at least 2-2 inbound and outbound links in your article.
To do so, Select your text > Click on the link 🔗 icon > Paste your page URL > Press the Enter key. That’s it!

Step 5. Publish Your Blog Post
Finally, you can hit the Publish button to live your blog post. WordPress also saves the post as a draft to publish later or schedules it for a particular day and time.
